Sleep

Categories: Exercise, Family, Gospel, Health

You would have to go back to October 1999 – March 2001 to find a period of time when I consistently got eight hours of sleep. That was my mission, it was the rule. (My dad said that would be the most sleep I ever got in my life.) Before then, it was probably elementary school. As much as I love to sleep, it just isn’t a priority. That, and my body clock doesn’t function on normal business hours.

But we added some extra aspects to our exercise challenge this time around. We still have to get in a certain number of cardiovascular exercise each week, for which we get one point each week. But then we also get one point each week for doing a personal challenge. And for me that means eight hours of sleep at least five nights a week.42D

Because the time I have to wake up is pretty determined each day, I have to go to bed at a specific time each night or I don’t get my eight hours. I have changed my focus on sleep. Instead of thinking about getting sleep, I now think about getting to bed. Small difference, but it’s apparently the difference I needed to make. The chance for a prize at the end of our three-month bet is also appealing and motivational too.

We are half way through, and I’ve only missed four days so far. Makes me feel a little guilty for all I put my parents through, especially my dad, when I was in high school. Sorry.

I’m already happy!!

I have an odd issue.

When I was at BYU, I attended the student wards. The last one I was in was an interesting one. I was in a position once where I saw a stake wide graph for various statistics of different parts of each ward in the stake. There were several bar graphs on this sheet. The graphs were comparing each ward to the others in the stake. There was one graph showing sacrament meeting attendance. There was one for Sunday school attendance. There were graphs for home teaching and visiting teaching for the month.

Valentine’s Twice

Categories: Family, Happy Things

Saturday I got a present, was taken out to a nice dinner, went on a drive, and cuddled during a movie. It was sweet.42D

Yesterday I got a box from my mom and dad. Inside was a blanket, the latest Newbery book, a cute homemade Valentine card, spiffy pajamas (yes, I was surprised, I didn’t expect them so soon), and a spatula with hearts on it. Hurray for Valentine’s Day more than once a year!

Also, I’ve finally put up the pictures of the snow in Tucson. It was real pretty.

Also, for the last month, I have had no spam comments here. I’m loving it. I have two theories for why that could be. One could be the move, the other could be the upgrade. I tend to lean more towards one than the other, but because I did them both at the same time, I’ll probably never know. This is why you should only manipulate one variable at a time in a study. But then I didn’t know I’d want to be analyzing that when I did it, so I didn’t plan to record any data. Also, I think I spend too much time reading research.

I’m being decisive (if not productive)

I have decided that a group of people that pride themselves on how much they love each other, really don’t any more. And that’s okay because I decided a while ago that I didn’t want to be around there any more.

I also decided my thumb is more messed up than we all originally thought so I called the doctor again.

I’ve decided that I need more chocolate.

I’ve decided that I can probably justify buying sweater boxes.

I’ve decided to attempt a “spread the love” thing either privately or openly on my blog, as soon as I’m sure I won’t forget anyone, so it might be a month or too.

I’ve decided to write a blog explaining my disgust with single’s wards’ “walls of happiness.”

I’ve also decided that getting 8 hours of sleep is a great thing. But that despite getting plenty of sleep I really can’t concentrate at all this semester (I blame my thumb, it’s distracting).

I’ve been very decisive today.

Paying it forward (or an excuse to be crafty)

One of my dear past roommates posted this on her blog, and I liked the idea. The first three people to leave a comment on this post will get something homemade from me at some point this year. There’s one other catch though, you also have to agree to do the same thing.

So a comment, and an agreement to make something for someone else. That’s it and you’ll get something real cool that I made.

As if I need an excuse to make something. 😀

Edited to add: You only have to make something for three people, but who am I kidding, within reason, if you comment on this thread, I’ll make you something. But the first three get a bigger something than the ones after that.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I must admit to actually liking this holiday, no matter my relationship status on this day. I think it is a lot of fun. But that probably has a lot to do with the environment I find myself in a lot for it. That would be elementary school.

In elementary school there is no pressure to have a special someone for February 14th. There’s no worry about what to get or do. There’s just the joy of simple love and handing out fun paper Valentine’s to everyone in the class, or lots of candy. But either way, it’s not a bad holiday.

My friend Mimi has set a goal for this, her 30th year, to tell 30 different people she loves them. I hope the people I love know I do. I could probably be better at expressing that as well. But I am grateful every day for the amazing family and friends I have.

Randomly random

There is a meme going around Facebook where in you write down 25 random things about you and then tag 25 of your friends with the idea that they will then do the same. Except if you are tagging someone as being part of a note, shouldn’t they be mentioned in the note? That’s what I think.

So as I wrote down 25 things about me, I tried to think of how different friends of mine would tie in with each of them and then tag them. Some of them are very obvious, some of them not so much. Some people probably could fall under more than one, but there was definitely one I had in mind when I wrote them down. A few have figured out which one was them.
