I have been changed for good.

The Fifth Grade Traveling Show was yesterday. I love that show. It has been a high point of the year for me since I started working at Mt. Mahogany. It is amazing what those kids are able to do. And it always humbles me how much work the fifth grade teachers put into that show. [...]

Mr. Rogers

When I got to work today I did something that reminded me of Mr. Rogers. And I do it almost every morning too.
The temperature in my classroom is a strange thing. It is never a constant. Having 30 computers running will do that. My room can be very warm and very chilly, all on the [...]

“Normal” People

I remember my dad telling me on countless occasions that I needed to sleep when normal people sleep. The last few days have been Spring Break at work so I’ve been able to get back on “my” schedule. I was talking with someone about night owls and early birds at the fabric store, and she [...]

How do you recognize death?

Do you take “any” news of death the same as a tragic event that is closer to home? Does one affect you more than the other? Are there any specific reasons for your reactions? This question was posed recently elsewhere on the web. I had to think about it.
This is what I came up with.
I [...]

Hokie Hope

Virginia Tech family members from across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an “Orange and Maroon Effect” day in honor of those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday and to show support for VT students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and friends.
“Orange and Maroon Effect” was born several years ago [...]

Not asking why

I could very easily ask so many whys about the shooting at Virginia Tech yesterday. I could ask whys about why he did it. I could ask whys about what was done about it. I could ask whys about policies and procedures and laws. I could sit back and analyze what could have been done [...]

A Teacher’s Influence

Someone recently asked me an interesting question about teachers in my life. I liked it because it is slightly different than the one I normally get, which is, “why did you become a teacher.” They asked about teachers that had affected my life. Here are a few.
I remember my third grade teacher keeping me in [...]

A simple request

I am requesting that everyone cross their fingers that the run-away crack on my windshield will continue to angle down rather than across my windshield. I can’t stop the crack now, but if it goes down I won’t have to replace the windshield until the next time my car needs a safety inspection.

The randomness that can be Monday

I had to scrape frost off my car this morning. I drove to work, worked for an hour, and then left work. And suddenly there was a twelve inch crack on my windshield. It wasn’t there before.
I have a pansy in my garden. Three plants survived the winter and one of them bloomed today. I [...]

Funny hood thing

Friday I picked up my cap and gown and tassel and hood for the graduation ceremonies in one month at the University of Utah that I am participating in. I won’t be finished with my classes till the end of June or the first of July, but this is the closest graduation ceremony to then, [...]
