Crossing them off the list

Categories: Quilting/Sewing/Knitting/Crafting

I’m doing a lot of sewing for our wedding. But first I needed to get a bunch of other sewing projects finished and out of my way. Here’s a quick run down of all the projects I finished between the end of June and the first of August.

The elephant was for my brother’s wedding two weeks ago. He’s traveled the world and wanted to arrive at his wedding on an elephant the way the groom does in India. They weren’t able to do that, so I sewed an elephant for him and beaded some blankets to put on it in their wedding colors.

The ball was for my nephew’s first birthday a week ago. I used fabric scraps from different things related to my sister and her family for it, including a scrap from the skirt I wore at their wedding. My hand stitches still need some work.

The blanket and dog were for a friend of mine who adopted their second child.

The long arm quilted one went to some friends as a very late wedding gift (a couple of years late). It was also my first time ever using a long arm quilter. I think I might be in love.

And of course I had to do something for me (in blue, yellow, and green). This is my general every day wall hanging quilt. And it has yo-yos.

Marathon Training 2009

Categories: Exercise, Health

That’s right. I’m doing another one. I’m not only going to graduate school and planning a wedding, I’m training for a marathon. In fact, the marathon is scheduled for 29 days after the wedding. And I’m doing that on purpose and with full support of Brett.42D

He and I agree that the regular running I’ll get training for a marathon will help me reduce all the stress of everything else. I’ll sleep better. I’ll eat better. Training for this marathon is what is going to keep me sane through everything else going on right now. A side benefit is how good running makes my legs look.

However, according to my training schedule, I have an 15 mile run the day before our wedding. I’ll have to tweak the schedule and do that earlier in the week I think. The 3-4 miler on the schedule for the wedding day fits with my plans for that morning, so we’ll stick with that.

And I’ve really noticed a difference too. My arms have been so incredibly tense the last couple of months or so. But the days I’ve gone running there is a noticeable difference in how bad the knots in my arms are.

Luckily, as my training gets more intense, the temperature should start going down. Because it’s just hot out there right now.

Pictures and music

I like watching the statistics on my websites. I can tell what page a person starts on, what page they end on, and how long they’ve been there. For example, I can tell that many people have been checking out the photo page on the website for Brett and me. Today, there is something there. 🙂

I took photos starting from the night we met to our engagement photo shoots last month (it’s already September?) and put them to “our song.” It’s on the page as a flash movie, or you can open it through the link in Windows Media Player.

We’ll get more still shots up soon.

Mom

Today is my mom’s birthday. She’s the best mom I could’ve asked for. She’s been a wonderful example to me and taught me so much.

I’ve been sitting on these articles and such about the importance and divine role of women and mothers and thought today would be a good day to put them out. I might go back to them at a future date and say something about them, but for now, just enjoy them and think about them.

Love you Mom!

Bad timing

Categories: Education, Venting

Okay, so maybe I am feeling stress right now. And throwing the start of school and another thing or two into the mix, and there are several things that are just bad timing for me this week.

Let’s start with poor customer service and go from there.

Several many years ago I got a Victoria’s Secret credit card. They have nice things and good smelly stuff. And every year they send me a $10 gift card to use the month of my birthday. Except this year (of all the years!!!). So I called the end of July and the person told me they’d reissue it. Two weeks later still hadn’t received anything. So I called again. Was surprised that a man would answer the customer service line at Victoria’s Secret, but okay. He said they had reissued it, but that’s interesting that I still hadn’t received it. So he reissued it again. It’s now the end of August, nothing.

It’s going to take till some time near the end of September for the graduate college to realize that they are supposed to be covering my tuition and send me the check from my student loan for this semester. Unfortunately that will come about three weeks after I need that check. I love the school, I just wish they could get their act together and communicate better some times. Stupid air conditioner in my car breaking two months ago and throwing my whole budget off for two months or this wouldn’t be such an issue.

On August 11th I placed an order for ribbon for my wedding. I was charged for that order on August 13th. On August 26th they finally got around to shipping it. I didn’t think they could charge me if they hadn’t shipped it. This better be all I need because I won’t have time to order more if it isn’t.

And don’t talk to me about the invitations to our wedding right now. I just might explode.

And last night a 70-year-old man pulled my braid. What the huh?

I’m just going to go curl up in a ball for a bit and try not to yell at anyone. xD

A Domain for Two

Categories: Family, Relationships, Science & Tech

We have a winner!!

MissGiggles.com will remain my own web domain where I can go off on the random things about my own life.

But, on Monday night (when I renewed MissGiggles.com for another go), I also purchased Ooh-Shemo.com. It is ours. And it even has stuff on it too! And Brett thinks it looks great! (I love that he loves my talents that are easy but look hard.) We debated how to punctuate it and decided the hyphen is much underused and needed some recognition.42D

That’s right, we are basically calling our web site “that’s what it’s called.” But in Hebrew, so that makes it cool.

Right now it will basically be information about our wedding and introducing us to people who might only know one of us. (Brett needs to write his introduction still. If you go check it out right now, that’s what I put.)

That is all.

The visual record

Categories: Family

Here’s a link to the visual record of our trip to St. Louis last week.

I feel like I need to explain a zoo picture or two.

For this picture, you might notice the back ends of the rhinoceroses in the distance. It seems like that was the side most animals were showing that day (insert philosophical thought about zoos here). So for this one I just stood further back to get the whole back end of the zoo idea.

And this picture was Brett’s idea.42D

You might recall him doing something similar with another statue of animals last year

Any guesses as to what other animal statues will be next?
