You can also read me here

This month, Segullah is doing an up close look at what it is like to live as a single female member of the LDS church. They asked for readers to submit articles and they are featuring them on Sundays. Today, you can read me! I wrote a piece called “For a Reason” about all the reasons I’m old and single. Check it out!

What a weekend!

Categories: Family, Happy Things, Relationships

Well that was quite the weekend. And it’s been quite the month too. I just got home. It was a great trip – family, friends, wild animals, lovey mushy stuff, dancing, grilled trolls. Simply a great trip.

But I’m exhausted. So you’ll have to hear more about it later.

I love what I do

Categories: Life

I gave the final exam on Wednesday and finished submitting the grades this morning. And I have to say, I really enjoyed teaching the class. I think I got into teaching because I absolutely love learning, but I really love teaching too. I just needed to change the situation I had before. Right now I get the best of everything. I get to study and learn and write papers (yes, I love writing papers). And, I get to teach. But the teaching is mostly in short bursts so it remains novel.

It’s interesting to look at how everything keeps building on everything else. My teacher prep. program at BYU prepared me to teach. My teaching prepared me to pursue graduate degrees, and now both my teaching and my graduate studies have prepared me to teach again.

Random? Scattered is more like it.

I’m feeling quite genuinely scattered currently. But let me lay out my August for you and maybe you can see why.

Last week Brett’s parents came home from their mission.

This week I finished teaching a whirlwind class on educational psychology – a whole semester in four weeks (but I loved it, the class was great).

Next week is my brother’s wedding.

The following week the new semester starts.

And then it’s September.

If I could sit still long enough I’m sure I could gather my thoughts, but it just isn’t happening.

Input needed

Categories: Science & Tech

If I were to start a new website (in addition to Miss Giggles.com, this one isn’t going anywhere), which of these names would be best?

  1. The Yellow Turtles
  2. Ooh Shemo

This website would be for Brett and I together.42D

:turtle: The Yellow Turtles is a nod to our growing inside joke about turtles as well as a long running joke about a fear of the additive yellow #5.

Ooh Shemo roughly means, “that’s what it’s called” in Hebrew. So we’d be calling the website “that’s what it’s called.” It’s also become the catch-all phrase he and I use in a lot of different situations.

Please remember that any and all feedback we receive on this might just be chucked out the window and we’ll do what we want anyway.

Baby elephant!!

Categories: Happy Things

Things can’t be all that bad in the world if there’s one more baby elephant.

Hogle Zoo has a brand new baby elephant! (KSL, Deseret News).

How cute!

Yippy! :woot:

Super exciting! 😀

Also, I’m very glad I don’t have to be pregnant for 22 months and then deliver a 250 pound baby. Nine months and nine pounds is plenty for me.

I wonder if I can go see her later this year.

I wonder what they are going to name her.

I love elephants, in case you didn’t already know. 😉

The “What if…” game

Categories: Life, Musings, Relationships

Ever play that game where you wonder how your life would be different if you’d made a different decision at some point along the way?

What if I’d gone to a different school?
What if I’d chosen a different major?
What if I’d accepted that job instead of that one?

Generally when we think of those things, we think in terms of the big events in our lives. Brett and I were thinking about several of those possibilities in his life this past weekend.42D

But what about those little decisions? As we were talking, I mentioned one that at the time was so small as to be almost unnoticeable.

What if he hadn’t responded to that email?

I almost choked saying it. Would we have met some other way? Would we have found happiness with someone else and never known each other?

In the end, I’m grateful he did. That one small decision has changed SO many things, large and small.
