And now we do the dance of joy!

The alternate title to this post would be: Call me Professor, Professor Giggles.

I got an email this morning asking if I wanted to teach an undergraduate class this summer. I’d be the teacher of record and it would be the same class I’ve been working with this school year as a TA (so I’m not walking in to it completely blind). In fact, I was observed guest teaching the class yesterday. I guess I did a pretty good job. And they’ll pay me for it!

How cool is that!?!

I’ll answer that for you. IT’S SUPER COOL!!

After news like that, doing homework seems kind of boring now. (Truthfully, the homework seemed boring before.)

Expressions in art

Categories: Folks, Gospel

The worldwide art competition the LDS Church Museum has every three years recently opened in Salt Lake. This year, due to the large number of pieces, they are displaying them in the Conference Center rather than the Museum. They will be on display through October 11th. I really hope I can make it up to Utah to see it.

Because they called me on a mission

Because they called me on a mission
I grew at least a foot or two.
I learned and became much more ready
To teach and live and serve my whole life through.

In praise of the ILL

Categories: Books

I must sing the praises of the ILL, inter-library loan. I have decided that I want to always be associated with a place of higher education just so I can always have access to this system. Pretty much any book I’ve wanted lately (for my alphabetical book reading challenge this year, and other reasons) has not been at the physical library I have available. Yet if I think of a book I want, it is a simple matter of filling out a form on the internet, waiting a few days for an e-mail, walking from the education building across the mall (think DC type mall not shopping mall) to the library, and get the book. This is a beautiful thing! It’s the wonderfulness of a library (free books!) multiplied by access to pretty much any book anywhere. The product is astronomical! :woot:

Symmetry

Categories: Health, Random

My body is not symmetrical. Of course, at the organ level everyone’s body is not symmetrical. You only have one liver, one gall bladder, one appendix, so inside all of us we are not symmetrical.

Most people just assume that on the outside you could draw a line down your middle and be symmetrical on each side – one arm on each side, one ear on each side, one leg on each side, and so on. So on the base level of my outsides, I’m more or less symmetrical, but when you look closer, I’m really not.

Name a moon!!

Categories: Science & Tech

How cool is this? There appears to be another planet, Orcus, and it’s the anti-Pluto, doing everything Pluto does, but a mirror image. And Orcus has a moon. And that moon needs a name. And they’re asking for suggestions!

I shall have to ponder this deeply. After I prepare tomorrow’s presentation of course. I think I’ve already reached today’s limit on procrastination.

S/1 90482 (2005) needs your help – Information about the moon and where to submit suggestions.

And a picture (if you squint your eyes and tilt your head) – Orcus of the Outer Solar System

But I don’t want to spring clean today

Categories: Venting

Spring break was last week. So why am I doing spring cleaning today?

I’ve taken my blankets outside on my patio and have them airing out as best I can without an actual clothes line (is it weird that I dream of having a clothes line?). I’ve pulled everything I can out of the corners of my bedroom and I’m dusting everything and vacuuming every corner. I have all the windows open to help air everything out. And I would love to be hanging my pillows and all my blankets on a line, not just outside, but outside in the sun.
