What have we learned?

Today over lunch I asked Brett what he’s learned in 5 years of marriage. He didn’t need much time to think about it before he came back with that he’s learned he really dodged the bullet. After 5 years we’ve both learned more than before just how lucky we really are.

We knew we were a good fit when we got married. That’s why we got married. But there was no way we could’ve known about all the little things about each other that fit so well with each other without actually being married. And we fit better than either of us could’ve imagined.

Tonight we met a couple that’s been married 6 months and they asked us what advice we’d give them at this point. How do we tell them to make sure all the things they can’t know about each other match up? So we told them to say thank you a lot. We told them to take regular time to talk to each other even about the mundane things or the funny things they read on the internet that day.

We love each other more now than we did five years ago because we know each other so much better. Here’s to even more loving and learning together in the coming years.

Here’s a great Story People about this exact idea – First Things.

Yeah, I’m glad this is not one of the situations where I have to look back and say I would have done it differently. I didn’t know all the reasons you were right for me then, but I chose perfectly anyway. :brett:

Two years of marriage next week and we’re definitely still learning just how perfect we are for each other. I love Blake more every day!
