Note to the idiot in Provo

Note to the idiot driving down University in South Provo this evening:
Next time, before getting so mad at everyone for following so close behind that you feel you need to flip me off, you might want to check your speedometer, and then you might want to notice that the speed limit is 40, not 27.
Thank [...]

What I learned

I watched a fascinating show about Helen Keller and her spirituality and faith tonight.
But what I learned that stood out the most to me was that she was a Vaudville performer. She and Annie Sullivan toured the Vaudville circuit telling Helen’s story.

Better than sliced bread

I think jars of fresh minced garlic are even better than sliced bread.
I love that I can just open the fridge and the hardest part about adding fresh garlic to anything is getting the jar open.
And everything is better with fresh garlic (except maybe Cheerios).
That is all.

The trouble with quilting…

The trouble with quilting late at night is realizing at 2 in the morning that you are going to need 6.5 more inches of a fabric inorder for the quilt top you are piecing to look like it is complete. I have a baby blanket all laid out on my floor, and it just looks [...]

Car colors

I believe I have mentioned it before, but it baffles my mind why people think white cars don’t show the dirt. White carpet shows dirt, why would a white car be any different? I say this now because I just finished scrubbing bug guts off the front of my car. I think my next car [...]

What I learned about earthquakes

I learned that Utah has about 700 earthquakes and aftershocks every year. That’s almost two a day. Most are so small that nobody ever feels them. But if you want to keep track of them, I found two websites that have real neat maps where you can see all the earthquakes that have happened in [...]

What I learned about Giraffes and Kumquats

I learned that a giraffe’s blood pressure is about twice what a human’s is. And they have huge hearts. And they have a lot of muscles in their arteries and veins so they don’t get head rushes when they take a drink. And their skin is so tight on them that it’s almost like an [...]

Why I still speak Portuguese

The other night I started thinking about why I say certain things. I haven’t been in Brasil in over 5 years. Yet there are still certain things I say in Portuguese, certain phrases that I just haven’t been able to change back to English yet. Why do I do that? Why did certain phrases stick [...]

Learn Something New Every Day

I like to see what I can learn new each day. Some times they are random obscure things I learn about my life. Some times they are actual facts about the world. Some times it isn’t really new, just something I forgot.
Today I learned that no matter what kind of scorpion it is, they all [...]

Utah is uneducated

This story ran on the news tonight: Utah Not Educated Enough for Two Stores.
I don’t know why it surprises some people. I’m also not sure why Crate and Barrel or the Cheesecake Factory require a minimum population with college degrees. When they were previewing the story, I thought they might be book stores or something [...]
