When I grow up

I want to be old when I grow up.

That is all.

People

Categories: Learn Something, Life

It is an interesting past time to look at people, watch them, and figure out why they do what they do. A lot of times the first assumption about why someone does something, in reality, has nothing to do with why they do it.

I had a sudden moment of enlightenment recently with someone I know. It was interesting to consider the possibility that they are probably very insecure with themselves and their life, that they view life as a constant competition with everyone around them, even though nobody is competing with them. This person loves being the center of attention, and feels intense negative feelings towards anyone who steals that attention from them. In an effort to appear great and important they tear down everyone around them. They have chosen a few select individuals who they feel can be allowed to be on the same level as them, and everyone else around them must either be beneath them, or made to feel beneath them. What first appeared to be confidence and self-assurance is more than likely insecurity and pride.

It gives a new perspective to all of my past dealings with this person. It would’ve been nice if I could’ve figured this out before though. It would’ve saved me a lot of grief in the past.

The problem with sunglasses

Categories: Life, Random, Venting

I have a hard time going out in the sun without sunglasses. I love sunglasses. It was just over a year ago that I lost my favorite pair too. I’d had them for about ten years, and spent $5 on them at Sea World. They were perfect for my face (didn’t make me look like I had bug eyes) and perfect for wearing out running, and I miss them terribly.

Yesterday I was out looking for a dressier pair of sunglasses and I noticed that there is a problem all sunglasses manufacturers seem to have. They have all made crooked sunglasses where the right side is higher than the left. It couldn’t possibly be that my left ear is slightly lower than the right, so it has to be a problem with the sunglasses themselves. Every single last one of them is crooked.

Happy Independence Day!

I love fireworks. I love the really big and loud ones. I like the smell of them. I like when they are so loud I can feel them. Tonight I got to watch a great fireworks show in the small town of Pleasant Grove. I really like Pleasant Grove too. I do a lot of things there, work, melodramas, attend concerts in the park, fireworks shows. It’s a nice little town.

Their Independence Day fireworks take place at the football field of the high school. The show lasts about twenty-five minutes or so, and the final is great. They shoot off about 15-20 fireworks almost at the same time. It’s bright and loud. Last year I sat at the park East of the school. This year I sat on the grass next to the bleachers on the East side of the football field. The fireworks were being shot off from the West side of the football field. I was very close. And it was cool. I was right underneath the fireworks and had ash all over me by the end of the show. The sound made my whole body vibrate. I was in fireworks heaven, like a kid in a candy shop as some would say.

I love fireworks. I love the United States even more though.

Note to the idiot in Provo

Note to the idiot driving down University in South Provo this evening:

Next time, before getting so mad at everyone for following so close behind that you feel you need to flip me off, you might want to check your speedometer, and then you might want to notice that the speed limit is 40, not 27.

Thank you.

What I learned

I watched a fascinating show about Helen Keller and her spirituality and faith tonight.

But what I learned that stood out the most to me was that she was a Vaudville performer. She and Annie Sullivan toured the Vaudville circuit telling Helen’s story.

Better than sliced bread

Categories: Happy Things, Life, Random

I think jars of fresh minced garlic are even better than sliced bread.

I love that I can just open the fridge and the hardest part about adding fresh garlic to anything is getting the jar open.

And everything is better with fresh garlic (except maybe Cheerios).

That is all.
