The spam comments I’ve been getting lately have cracked me up. I’m not going to approve them, so I thought I’d put a few of them here.

On my blog about aardvarks and Kokomo: Like what you have to say. Your blog makes good since [sense] to me.

On a blog about Independence Day: Good observation, your ideas are right on.

On a blog about a shopping list: Nice look…

Sure Spelling

Categories: Education, Questions, Random

I distinctly remember writing in our journals in my fourth grade class and trying to remember how to spell the word “sure.” That word confused me a great deal. It starts with a “sh” sound, so I always spelled it “shure.” I figured it out eventually and I don’t think I’ve made that mistake since, until now. Within the last few days I’ve had to catch myself from typing the H in that word. I wonder why I’ve started doing that again. Where did that come from?

Faith Without Works

Categories: Education, Venting

Last week it finally dawned on me how to express what really bothers me about the education system in Utah – no works. They talk about valuing families and education and our children, but they can’t put their money where their mouth is. They have faith in the system, but don’t put forth the works to actually make it happen.

Tonight this story ran in the news about a school where 60 fourth graders get 1 and 1/3 teachers. (I’d hate to be the teacher that got cut up). http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=591837

What I learned about…

I just learned that cutting four yards of chiffon on the bias and cutting those strips in half and putting them around your waist and putting on a silver satin blouse is real fun. I feel so pretty. I’m a pretty princess. This is going to be a fun Halloween costume this year.

Stiff necked

Categories: Exercise, Health, Learn Something

I think the title of this post is a funny phrase. At physical therapy yesterday I learned I don’t have a stiff neck though. Well, I do. It’s stiff in the morning when I wake up, real stiff. It’s okay around the middle of the day, and by the end of the day I just wish I could take my head off and put it somewhere because it is too heavy. Yesterday though, I learned part of why.

The average head is 10-12 pounds, or about 10% of your body. The average neck can exert 20-30 pounds of force pulling forward and backwards. All of that was new knowledge for me. Yesterday the physical therapist checked the strength of my neck. Pulling back I was able to get about 10 pounds. Pulling forward, only 3. No wonder it often feels like my head is too heavy to hold up.

The need to write – A thought on the website’s anniversary

Categories: Random, Science & Tech

I have had this website for three years today. I like to think it has some use to the general public, particularly the book section, but I don’t know. I should reach the 10,000 official hit mark some time today. I get more hits from people looking for pictures of Kate Barlow right now, and for a while I was getting at least one a day from someone looking for pictures of knives. The book section is looked at on occasion, and it reminds me of how many, and how few, books I’ve read.

I know my mom likes to look at my website. She likes to see the pictures so she’s knows what’s going on with me. And the calendar and all the write ups do that too. It doesn’t seem like my friends look at it that often though. Maybe I should put up more pictures of them.

But I almost think the whole site, and especially the blog recently, are for me. It’s great for me to get all of my random thoughts out of my head. I’ve been a journal keeper for a long time, but the things I put here don’t always seem like things I would put in a journal. I consider them more short essays on life. These are my random “ah-ha” moments or my frustrations. It’s nice to get them out to look at them.

In one of my classes we are discussing metacognition right now. It’s being aware of your thought process. And as I think about it, writing for so long has probably helped me to become rather metacognitive. There are other factors as well, but writing out my thoughts allows me to look at them closer. When I write a thought down I have to trace where it came from, and I can easier see where it is going. I love writing. I love examining my brain like that.

So, happy anniversary to MissGiggles.com. I look forward to more reflection and randomness in the future.

What would I be like?

I commonly refer to my time spent performing in Tony and Tina’s Wedding as my “drunk slutty nun” days, because that is a brief description of the character I played. But I don’t think I’d be that kind of drunk if I ever took up drinking. Not that I ever plan on taking up drinking. But if how I act when I’m on valium or lortab, like I have the last two weeks, or even just cough medicine, I think I’d be a very boring drunk. I’d just kind of sit there with a glazed over look on my face and not completely aware of what was going on around me. Kind of like how I have been off and on for the last two weeks. Why am I thinking about this right now? Because two different friends brought up me as a drunk in different conversations this week. That’s just random.
