Itchy fingers

:computer: Monday I turned off my computer at 7pm. I’d been noticing for a while that I can always find something new to do on the internet to keep me up at night. And I’d been a little disconcerted about how much time my lap top spent on my lap when I was sitting on the couch with Brett in the evening.

So I turned it off.

And then I had time to soak my feet, read a book, and do some yoga before we went to bed at a pretty decent hour.

Success.

Last night I had a meeting from 7-9pm. I printed off the agenda and then turned off my computer at 6:30pm. Because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to put off certain computer things until late at night, I even made significant progress on them before I shut off my computer.

When I got home from my meeting I told Brett it was nice to not have that distraction sitting on my desk calling to me. He laughed and asked if I wasn’t itching to go over and turn it on though. And I said, “YES! Which is why I know I need to leave it off.”

I could think of several things I could be doing online, checking things, updating things, looking up things, pretending to do productive things.

But I left it off. And guess what? All of that was still available when I got up this morning. And I had time to sort the laundry last night before bed.

I’m going to try turning it off again this evening. Eventually that itchy feeling should go away, right?

Good for you! I should try this, and probably sometime soon.

I used to like sewing at night, but I can’t do it here because we have neighbors down stairs. But there are times I still hear the sewing machine calling my name after the sun goes down. :sun: 😀

It’s the Internet. I know you think we should not be spending so much time together. I’m cool with that, really. Just try not to think of all the time you’re missing watching youtube videos of stupid cats running into walls, shutting themselves in coolers, and pulling down the pants of their owners. All that will do is make you really, really, really anxious…
