An ice-cream quilting challenge

I like quilting. A lot. I like looking at quilts. I like thinking about quilts. I like reading about quilts (two weeks ago I took a quilt pattern book to bed to read before falling asleep). And I definitely like making quilts.

I also like ice cream. A lot.

One of my internet quilting friends is issuing a challenge to her local quilting guild and offered the same challenge to anyone else who wanted to give it a go. Why not? It’s not like I don’t have a whole huge list of other quilts I’m working on. Besides, it’s a small quilt.

The rules are thus (and I’m putting them here so I can remember what they are):

  • They draw a “flavor” of ice cream you have to work with.
  • The finished quilt can be no more than 100 inches in circumference.
  • The quilt needs at least two “toppings” (embellishments)
  • It needs to be finished by June 8th.

They drew “jamoca almond fudge” for me. It should be interesting because I don’t really ever quilt with browns. I’m going to think about it for a bit while I hopefully finish up another project or two.

And of course there will be pictures when it is finished, and possibly along the way as well.

    Ooh. Cool!

On a related note, remind me to say no to anything anyone asks me to do until May.

Amanda, say no to anything anyone asks you to do until May.

(Because the quilt doesn’t need to be finished till June, I figure I’m okay with it.)

I figured out what it’s going to look like and I bought the fabric. I’m fudging a big with fabric that looks like the ice cream flavor, but it will work. Now I need to figure out the actual measurements for the quilt and then I can sew it together. I have a few ideas for toppings, we’ll see what works when it is finished. I’m excited! And since I just finished being a student till August, I can get going on this now. :woot:

The top’s finished. And I know what I’m doing for the embellishments. I love it. I’ve never made a quilt quite like this, pure art, no function. It’s been so much fun.

I have no idea what normal people do with freezer paper, but it’s been perfect for this project.

I don’t know what normal people do with freezer paper either. I think I have two rolls of it, and I have no idea why.
