Today’s question

Actually, this is a question I’ve been thinking about for a couple of days. Why do we use the verb “to take” when we are talking about cleaning ourselves with a bath or a shower? It’s even the same verb in Spanish and Portuguese. Where are we taking these showers to? They don’t go anywhere. This is just my oddity for the day.
