How to Expect the Unexpected

Categories: Family, Happy Things, Infertility

When last we left our “how to” series (“How to Make a Baby” and “How to Make a Sibling (or two)”) I thought we’d written the final chapter and sent it to press. Turns out I was wrong. God had a very exciting epilogue he wanted to write. An epilogue we didn’t find out about until it was well on its way to the printer. But that’s part of the story. And I’m getting ahead of myself. So here’s what we believe is the exciting conclusion with the wonderfully unexpected. Keep reading

My Hero

Categories: Family, Happy Things

Every day at noon I face the task of getting lunch for three kids and then getting four kids down for naps. It takes a good two hours before the house is quiet. And there’s a lot of noise before that quiet starts. … And this is where my hero steps in. … Super heroes help people. Iddo is my hero. Keep reading

Setting the tone

Categories: Family, Happy Things

Last Friday I took our kids to the library for our regular every-third-Friday trip to the library. As they were wandering around, sitting in every chair to read their books, checking themselves out with the laser scanner, etc (all in the kids area), I saw an older gentleman watching and I could tell he was getting ready to say something about me having my hands full or something like that. I’m so crafty

Categories: Family, Happy Things, Infertility, Life

I’m crafty gosh darn it! And several times I cried because of all the things I could make and do, I couldn’t make people. … It is an incredible blessing. The potential that these mortal and imperfect bodies have is immense. And it has very little to do with my crafting abilities and what I can do with a sewing machine or a glue gun. … I don’t want to forget that the role I played wasn’t the only role. It took me, Brett, our fertility doctor, the embryologist, the scientists and doctors over the last 40 years who made IVF as successful as it is today, a quick thinking/working OB, and God. He is the ultimate Creator. Just look at all the people He’s made. Keep reading

Plans

Categories: Happy Things, Life

When I was 15 I made a plan for my life – dating, college, mission, marriage, kids, the end. And then my life actually happened. … The list of things that have happened so far that I couldn’t even begin to imagine at 15 is a rather wonderful list. … But that hasn’t been the end yet. And thank goodness for that. I’m looking forward to all the ways my plans will go awry. Keep reading

How incredible is my body!

The pre-teen and teen years can be rough on a girl. Knowing that our girls (well, all of our kids) are going to take some kind of hit like that at some point in the future, I’ve set about to build them up just as high as I can so that when that hit does come it doesn’t knock them completely flat. That doesn’t mean I’m constantly telling them they are beautiful and smart. Although I do tell them that. … And I hope I’m leading by example. Keep reading

Expressions of Love

Last night as I was putting Shimri to sleep and she was taking her sweet time I started texting Brett a series of questions I saw a few other women on Facebook asking their husbands. It was entertaining and I loved Brett’s answers. … There are so many ways large and small to express our love. The important thing is that we do it. Keep reading
