Purple comfort

Some time in Spring of 2009 I found myself one afternoon really craving purple. Which is a weird craving, I’ll admit. I hadn’t seen my purple shirt since I traveled at Christmas the year before (it was hiding in a seldom used pocket of my suitcase). So I went out in search of purple. I came home with a new purple shirt, some purple yarn, ribbon, and fabric.

:pansy: Purple for me is a color that means comfort. It’s a soft soothing color. (It’s also Brett’s favorite color, which might be part of why it means comfort to me, he’s very comforting.) I wear my purple shirt when I’m having a bad day. I wear it when I want a visual hug. I wear it when I want to feel calm and happy.

Purple is a relatively new color in my life. I’m an “Autumn” color scheme, so I’ve always worn a lot of browns, oranges, and yellows. But in the past few years I’ve discovered that I can wear purple in certain instances, and I really like it.

Today I’ve got fun purple toenails. I’m wearing my purple shirt (version 1). And I’ve pulled out my purple “kitty” flannel pants (they have monkeys on them, but they reason I have the flannel pants is because my favorite toy growing up was a stuffed purple monkey I named Purple Kitty, I still have him, but I stopped sleeping with him when I got married). Brett even got me a grape popsicle. I’m all kinds of comfortable happy today.

Now, my favorite color is still green. Green is a happy color full of life.

I love colors. And I love recognizing what they do in my life. Color is inspirational.

What do the different colors mean for you? Do you pull out certain colors when you want to feel a certain way? Why is your favorite color your favorite color?

I’ve liked purple since before I can remember. I think it had something to do with the color of gum, or possibly Grover’s nose. :brett:

I like red, because it is energizing – http://thebookguardian.blogspot.com/2009/07/red-it-filters-through.html

And because it’s pretty. Overall, I like lots of colors. I don’t have one specific one I go to for comfort, but I really like that purple does that for you.

I love blue — I guess because when it is sunny and pretty, the sky is blue.

I love color. I just don’t like having to paint over my beautiful colored walls with off white paint. That’s not fun. :p

You’re a woman, not a season. 😉 And, in any case, “Autumns” can wear purple very very well. You can wear just about any color as long as the shade or tint agrees with your natural coloring. 🙂 I love purple, too, but my go-to color is pink, sometimes red. I love having a comfort color!

PS: I have Strong Opinions on personal color, and most of them revolve around the idea that no one should tell anyone that “blonds should never ever ever wear yellow”, for instance. Some yellows are just FINE. I’m sure there are some purples that would not flatter your coloring at all, but there are some that are just wonderful! Yay purple!
