I didn’t run Boston this morning. But I did run. 3 miles. And considering where I was at two months ago, that’s definitely an accomplishment. My hip is doing loads better than it was.
I was going through my journal the other week and realized I was talking about my hip after my marathon in 2008. So it’s apparently been an issue since then and didn’t start with the 2009 marathon like I’d thought. It just didn’t get bad enough for me to go to the doctor until February of this year.
The doctor said it was bursitis. The physical therapist said it was also real weak muscles on that side. So she had me stretching it, rolling it out (talk about pain!) and slowly getting back to running. That meant I started with just walking. And then added some speed walking intervals. And then jogging for one minute intervals and increasing that. And now, just over two months later I ran for thirty minutes straight and covered three miles this morning. Yea! I still need to take it slow and keep stretching and rolling. But it’s so good to see progress.
I’ll be at Boston one of these days.
I will be there with you. My lawn chair, sun vizor, and 44-oz. mug of Mountain Dew will also be there with you. :penguin:
…. and I’ll be there with bells on
I’m glad you’re healing up! It must have felt great to be able to run a bit again.
This guy ran 50 marathons in 50 days. I’m not THAT crazy. =]
