Thou shalt not covet

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Exodus 20:17

Call it splitting hairs, but am I still breaking the commandment if what I’m coveting doesn’t technically belong to any specific person? Because I covet bathrooms. And have for a very long time.

Of course there is also this scripture:

But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
1 Corinthians 12:31

And fancy bathrooms are definitely one of the best gifts.

I love big fancy bathrooms. And the more HGTV I watch, the more my dream bathroom takes shape in my mind and, in some ways, the larger it gets.

I love the big soaker tub we have in our bathroom. It’s wonderful to just lie in there and relax. And I’m perfectly fine that it doesn’t have jets because those can get mildew nasty. In my dream bathroom the only difference with the tub itself – it would be heated. Did you know they make heated tubs? The water never gets cold! How amazing is that.

And if we’re doing a heated tub, I wouldn’t mind a heated toilet seat too, because I can.

Of course having a tankless water heater would mean we’d never run out of hot water in the first place. And let’s put a hand-held shower head in there while we’re at it. And if the tub happened to be an infinity tub so I could soak even deeper, let’s do that.

And under-mounted sinks. Because they’re easier to clean. And put them higher than mid-thigh. And storage. Counter storage. Cabinet storage. And since our closet is connected to the bathroom, closet storage.

And fire. And I’m not talking candles. I’d like a fire place in the bathroom. So I can relax in my deep soaker tub with the water that never gets cold and watch fire. And listen to relaxing music. So music needs to be in there somewhere too.

I already have a big fluffy bathrobe. But a towel warmer, that would be cool.

I kind of like warmth in the bathroom, can you tell?

If I ever find Matt Muenster at a store near us, I’m going to do everything I can to get him to come do our bathroom. Of course I have plans for Josh Temple or Ahmed Hassan too.

Anybody else covet bathrooms like that? What would your dream bathroom have in it?

Because you “can?” You understand the definition of that word, right? :brett:

I’ll take one of everything you mentioned, especially if it cleans itself.

I have to admit that I didn’t shower too often during the winter in Curitiba. I can’t stand getting cold while taking a shower/bath. Did you ever burn the alcohol? I know we shouldn’t have, but in that one way, I was a disobedient sister a few times!Guilt got the better of me, and I quit, but then just didn’t shower daily (another rule from the handbook). I would sponge bathe, and call it good. Oh, fun memories! Right now my dream bathroom would not be shared with 4 boys and a husband. The seat would be down and the urine would be contained to the proper receptacle. Your bathroom sounds lovely.

You could turn your living room into one big bathroom.

Oh, I have plans for the living room. A nice chaise lounge and big soft chairs. The family room is getting two full walls of bookcases with a library ladder.

There are only three walls in the family room and we need a wall for our big comfy couch.

Right you are! I guess I forgot you already have a house. My dream house is NOT my shoebox basement apartment so I don’t have limitations like walls.

And when it comes to home libraries, I’ve recently taken a liking to converted reading nook closets – all nice and cozy. Bed nook closets too. Since I live in the aforementioned closet, it amuses me that I could want something even cozier, but the idea of having open living space with tucked away cozy spaces is appealing.

If a toilet can be a thing of beauty, that is a thing of beauty.

I’d hate to see what happens if the power went out and you really had to go.

They’d have to have something set up so it would still work. Definitely something to consider before taking the plunge.

Not initially, but when I saw what I did, I had to leave it.

Good Grief. I really don’t need the “potty” to play music. It would interfer with the music in my head.
