To what purpose?

There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
Matthew 26:7-10

WHY???

It’s a common question. Why do I have to do this? Why does this happen? Why does this happen to me? Why can’t things go right? Basically, “to what purpose” is all of this? They are questions of frustration and exhaustion. They are questions asked when the whole picture isn’t clear

There are several “WHY???” questions in my life right now. And I know in the end that the absolute worst I am imagining will not happen. I know that if I get started on a problem it gets solved a lot sooner. And I’ve learned from past “WHY???” moments that have “wrought a good work upon me” that if this doesn’t kill me it will make me stronger.

And hey, if it does kill me, at least I won’t have to worry about it any more.

Whatever you’re going through, you’ll get through it. Whatever you’re wondering about, you’ll figure out. That’s what I’m telling myself right now, too.
