This book takes a look at each of the 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Letter by letter it explains the symbolism of each, the concepts that each means, and how they relate to the other letters in the alphabet. The letters that are used to spell each word in Hebrew carry an additional meaning, adding another layer to the word. The deeper meaning of the words is fascinating.

With Brett studying Hebrew right now, it was very interesting for me to read this and be able to talk about it with him.

My favorite concept was probably that the letter ל (lamed) stands for למד (lamad) which refers both to teaching and learning. In my field we often speak of reciprocal teaching as an excellent way to help students learn something. If you can teach a thing to others then you have learned that thing. And here Hebrew has that theory and concept all wrapped up nicely in one neat little package.

Now to give the book back to Brett and we’ll see what he says about it when he gets around to reading it.
