  • Mormon Handcart Visitor's Center - Experience a handcart trek much like the one pioneers endured over 150 years ago. Visit the Mormon Handcart Visitors' Center and view exhibits recording the tragic circumstances of two handcart companies.
  • Winter Quarters - where the pioneers camped during the winter of 1846 and 1847 before heading west to Salt Lake City
  • Kanesville Tabernacle - built by 200 pioneers in just two-and-a-half weeks, Brigham Young was sustained as the second prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints here.
  • Nauvoo - Once home to thousands of settlers, Nauvoo rivaled its neighbor Chicago in size. Over two dozen historic sites have been returned to their former stature and refurbished with period furnishings by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Carthage Jail - where Joseph Smith, the first President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his brother Hyrum were martyred.
