Windows Area - Saturday, 10 April 2004

The last area of the park we went to was the Windows area. We took the primitive trail around the back of the North and South Windows. I liked the way they looked from back there better, and it was much less crowded as well.

I loved the scenery. The clouds kept the sky very interesting for pictures, and it was actually chilly enough I wore my jacket all morning. Of course that doesn't mean a whole lot since I'm usually cold anyways.

The park says the Windows and Double Arch trails are easy trails, 1 mile and .5 mile round trips. Since we were both sore from the previous day's hiking, they were great trails for Saturday morning.

Arches and formations in this area:

Double Arch
Double Arch started as a pot hole that wore all the way through the rock on two sides. If you hiked up into it, you could see all the way to Balancing Rock and beyond. But by the time we got there I knew my knee wouldn't get me back down if I went up, so I just relaxed on a rock while Brian went up to the top.

Parade of Elephants
The map said there was something called a "Parade of Elephants" in the area. We looked where the map said it was, but couldn't see anything that looked like an elephant. But when we looked on the other side of the trail we saw this. And I think it looks a lot like an elephant. And since I like elephants, I had to get a picture of it.
