Scrappy Spool Quilt
I've been using the twin bedspread I made eight years ago when I graduated from high school on my queen bed for the past two years. It is a great quilt, the first one I really pieced (2.5 inch squares on the whole thing) and then my mom and I hand quilted it watching the summer Olympics in Atlanta. But it doesn't really fit my bed, and, as a friend put it, I'm getting all nesty now in my new apartment. Part of that is now having a quilt, throw pillows, curtains, and all that match. This quilt, also pieced and hand quilted, is a scrappy spool design. I had fun going out and buying lots of different blues, greens, and yellows to make it. But when I sat down to cut it, I looked at all the different materials, and I wasn't so sure they were going to look good together. But I went ahead and did it anyways. As the pieces got smaller and started to mix together, they really started to look nice. Laying it out took a few hours, I didn't want the same material too near itself. And I think it looks wonderful now. I put it up on the quilt frames I got for my birthday last year, and it takes up my whole living room. It's still not finished, so there will be more pictures later.
