Picking a Music Box

When my family moved to our home in West Valley in 1982, there was a shelf above the stairs that my parents didn’t have anything to put on when they were decorating for Christmas. So they bought a music box and wrapped it and put it on that shelf. We opened it on Christmas Eve. We did the same thing the next year. And then we started doing it every year. We alternate between secular one year and religious the next. A few years we got more than one, so there are now more than 25 music boxes at my parents house. They separate them too. The secular are in the family room. The religious are in the living room.

Since leaving home I’ve started my own collection. I think I have 7 or 8 now. Since I’m not in my own home for Christmas Eve, and since I bought the music box and wrapped it so it would be silly for me to then open it myself, I have a Christmas party the beginning of December with a few friends and have one of them open it for me.
