Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends!

4 July 2010, Sunday

Happy Independence Day!

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Happy Chocolate Day!

Now this is a holiday I can really enjoy. And I've been craving chocolate all day too. We even have 1.5 pounds of fudge in our fridge that we bought in Wyoming; one pound of chocolate and half a pound of mint chocolate. There will be much rejoicing and celebrating here tonight.

12 July 2010, Monday

The World Cup ended yesterday. Spain won. Brett watched a few minutes of it with me. He's working on his Gooooool!!! It's getting longer, but it isn't long enough for him to be a soccer announcer yet. Maybe in four years.

No teddy bear picnics on Saturday for Teddy Bear Picnic Day. But we've trimmed up the bushes in our yard so they look more like bushes than sea monsters trying to take over our yard. And then we put our garden turtle statue (because they didn't have gnomes when I went shopping last year) under one of the bushes, so they're having their own little garden outing out there. I guess that really isn't a teddy bear picnic. Oh well. I tried.

Summer classes started today. We've already gone through chapter one. The speed of these summer classes is just crazy sometimes. Looks like I've got a good group of students though. Should be a lot of fun.

Vive La France!
Happy Bastille Day.

I embraced my geek yesterday did you? It's super hot here to be embracing much really (the lows don't get below 80, that's just too hot). My geek is very cuddly. I'm also very accepting of my own geekiness. It's worked well for me in my life.

Tomorrow I'll cook something with cow for dinner to appreciate the wonderful things we get from cows. We'll probably have cottage pie (it's like shepherds pie, but with cow instead of lamb). We watched a Nature program about cows a while back. We learned a lot about cows.

Brett and I definitely celebrated National Ice Cream Day on Sunday. We bought the ice cream when we went to the nearby shopping center to get us both on the same phone plan. Brett thinks because we bought ice cream the last time we were at that shopping center that he's now been classically conditioned to buy ice cream when we go there. I won't argue with the buying ice cream, but he might want to come sit in on my class to learn what classical conditioning really is.

We used our new Hershey ice cream bowls too.

The moon is getting big. But since the monsoon storms decided to finally show up, it's kind of cloudy at night so it's been hard to see. It's at that phase where it's up more at night than the day. At least the clouds mean that our lows are getting down to 80 and possibly lower. It's been easier to sleep this week.

And today we celebrated Approximate Pi Day. But not hammock day. I have a hammock. I got it on my mission. But I never had a place to put it up before. Now we have a place. We just need to figure out how to get it up. Then I'll be loving the hammock life.

Happy Pioneer Day!

Unfortunately I'm not sure where I put my lovely pioneer hat to wear today while I was working in our yard. And if I do run today, it won't be a marathon. I'll save that for another year.

31 July 2010, Saturday

And it's the end of July. I was just looking back over the calendar and it's been a rather busy month for us. This week I did manage to celebrate the three holidays on my calendar though.

Tuesday was "Take Your Pants for a Walk Day." So I wore pants. And we went walking. That one was easy.

Wednesday was also an easy holiday to celebrate - National Milk Chocolate Day. I celebrated this one by enjoying some of the chocolate frosting that we got for my birthday cupcakes (Brett prefered the cream cheese frosting and I figured that's fine, more chocolate for me). Although I couldn't tell you if I enjoyed the frosting with a cupcake or just a spoon. Either way, it's hard to go wrong.

And yesterday was National Cheesecake Day. We're going to be celebrating this one all weekend. Yesterday I made a cheesecake. But because we also made pizza for dinner and then both proceeded to eat our entire halves, we decided to hold off on eating it till today. I imagine by this time next week it will be all gone.

The monsoon storms have come in, so we're enjoying those. Just a while ago it looked like it was raining in our back yard but not our front yard. These storms are so strange some times. But at least the weather this weekend is cool enough to bare again. It also means our weedless yard has started growing weeds again. That was a good run of three months or so though.
