2 March 2007, Friday
That is all. 4 March 2007, Sunday March "Forth!!" 7 March 2007, Wednesday Today is 7-03-07, or smooshed together - 70307. It's a palindrome. And that makes me happy. 10 March 2007, Saturday Road trips are always fun. And while a big part of the fun for me is the actual driving, and there was only about a half hour of driving each way on this one, it was still a lot of fun. I have some great friends. 14 March 2007, Wednesday

17 March 2007, Saturday
Today is St. Patrick's Day. It is the anniversary of the organization of the Relief Society. And it is National Quilt Day. How did March 17th get so lucky? I wore a green shirt and an orange elastic in my hair to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. 23 March 2007, Friday Yup, it took about 45 minutes to finish those last 45 inches of binding. I'm really good at procrastinating things I don't like doing, even though I know I can finish them very quickly. The quilt turned out great though. Everyone oohed and aahed over it when I took it in to the store. I only have the vaguest idea of what I'm going to do with it when I get it back, but I'm definitely planning to enter it in the County Fair this summer. This photo didn't make the daily photo for today, since I try to get a picture of myself on the 23rd of each month. But there was just something about this car that was begging for me to take it's picture.
I haven't been able to sleep in for about a month. Until today. And I loved every minute of it. It's nice to not have that stress to rush so much in the morning. I was also glad because only the last two hours seemed to be real good sleep. I tossed and turned for the better part of six hours before finally dropping into a deep sleep. I'd forgotten what it felt like to sleep that well. I've missed it. 31 March 2007, Saturday I love General Conference. I especially love that I was able to lie in bed this morning and finish the last article from the November Ensign, making this the first time I've ever finished one Conference Ensign before the next Conference. I finished it about 9:30. Half an hour later General Conference started again. And all I had to do was roll out of bed and go into the next room and sit on the couch. I don't think I'll be able to do that my whole life. I know I haven't always been able to do it. When my family lived in New Mexico, Texas, and Kentucky we would go to the church building for all four sessions of Conference. This watching it in your pajamas thing is real nice. I took a lot of notes today, and I probably will tomorrow as well. It will be interesting to compare them to what I mark in the next conference edition of the Ensign when that gets here. I would like to point out two new links on my Links page. There is now a link to the Desert Gypsy Dance Company. This is the belly dance troupe that Kalista, the woman who's taught my belly dance classes, co-directs. She's a great teacher. I've seen the troupe perform once and they were very good. I have also put the official link to the traffic mess going on just north of my house. I have blogged about the removal of the houses along the street. I could also blog about all the blind people who drive. Yesterday I saw a car that was right next to the "no left turn" sign trying to turn left. People will never cease to amaze me. 5 April 2007, Thursday It seems like I should say something new since it's a new month. But I can't think of what I should say. The semester at the U is almost over. I have to drive up tomorrow to pick up my cap, gown, and hood (can't forget the hood, that's the cool part) because I forgot to stop and get them when I was at class yesterday. By the first of July I'll be done. I still think it is so strange that I am doing this. I started it last January. Before then it was all just talk when I talked about getting a Masters degree. I never really thought I'd follow through with it. School is coming to a close for the year too. One more full week and then it's Spring Break. Then just five weeks after that and we're all done. There are days it feels like it has gone by at a regular pace, days when it has gone by way to fast and I feel like there is no way we can get everything done before the end of the year, and days when the end can't come soon enough. Tomorrow is my belly dancing recital. I'm excited for it. I'm using making my outfit for it as reward and motivation to get my homework done. I really just want to go sew it, but I'm making myself wait till I'm caught up on my homework. Hopefully that will happen tonight since I need the outfit tomorrow. I went to a lecture about Mormon folk art and the symbol of the Tree of Life at BYU today. I'm really glad I "accidentally" got into folklore five years ago. It makes life so much more interesting. I took some photos of Spring while I was there. I'm submitting two of them to KSL. We'll see if they end up on TV or not. I love looking at the photos that they have on their site. They are so beautiful. 7 April 2007, Saturday Happy 70407! My mom said they had snow yesterday. That seems very appropriate for the sixth of April. My belly dance recital went very well yesterday. I had a lot of fun sewing up my outfit, and I got a lot of compliments on it as well. I really like belly dancing. I'll have some pictures later, and we got part of it on tape as well. 8 April 2007, Sunday
15 April 2007, Sunday A curse on all maple trees. At least I think that's where the curse should rest. Whatever started blooming about Wednesday or Thursday should be cursed at least. I am so completely congested that it's making me miserable. I'm not sick. It isn't a cold or flu. I can tell that much, because I don't ache and I don't have a fever. But the congestion is driving me batty. Can't breathe. I'm glad I was the choir director today and not in the choir. I was a tenor at best, and even then my range today was limited to about 5 notes. And of course a lot of words don't come out clear either. And I'm always thirsty. The pollen has sucked all the extra moisture in my body into the production of mucus. It's great. My body truly is amazing, in more ways than one. 16 April 2007, Monday Scratch that. I'm sick. I guess I was congested enough for enough days that I now have a moderately deep chest cough and a lot of sinus pressure. At least work is over for the week after tomorrow. Of course I'll still probably be at work a lot, trying to get a fourth grade project ready for display, and a sixth grade project ready for display, and getting my own projects ready to turn in next week. But at least I can do it in my pjs and don't have to get up early for it. 20 April 2007, Friday
For hope. We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness ... We will prevail ... 27 April 2007, Friday The Fifth Grade Traveling Show was yesterday. I love that show. It has been a high point of the year for me since I started working at Mt. Mahogany. It is amazing what those kids are able to do. And it always humbles me how much work the fifth grade teachers put into that show. They couldn't do it without all the parents who volunteer though. It really is a great production. Other than the year they had me be a dancing hot dog, my role in the show has simply been to make a few DVDs that are shown during the show. I started with digital photos of the different classes put together, but the last few years I've used the digital camcorder and filmed various things throughout the year and made a year in review type movie for it. In the past, I have also been the one running the computer and the projector that the DVDs are played on. This year we added a second computer and projector that had a power point of pictures of the various singers and narrators that was projected up on the wall so that people in the back of the room could see what the kids looked like. And this year, a student ran both projectors and both computers. He did a great job too. I was real impressed with him. It felt good to not be needed for that. The Traveling Show is one of my favorite things of the year. And watching it this year I again wondered how I will ever be able to leave it all. How will I be able to leave my students? The fifth graders this year were my first graders when I started. I've watched them grow and I couldn't be prouder of them. How will I be able to leave the teachers I work with? They've watched me grow and I think of them all as my friends. Things change and I know it won't be possible for me to stay there forever. The last dance of the program this year was a ballet to the song "For Good" from the musical Wicked. I have issues with that musical, but I felt the song was very appropriate for me right now. Because I knew you: I have been changed for good. Because I've been at this school, I have been changed for good. 30 April 2007, Monday This is one of my newest favorite photos of me. This is from my belly dance recital back on April 6th. I really like how it turned out. I have some other great ones that are fun action shots I'll put up later. But I had to show this one off. I really like belly dancing. I have one or two fun ones from this last weekend I'll have to see about getting up eventually as well.
6 May 2007, Sunday My parents visited this weekend. I love it when my parents visit. They came out because I was participating in the graduation ceremonies at the University of Utah. I still have three more classes and my comprehensive exams, but those will all be done by the first week of July and then my degree will be official. But this weekend I put on the funny looking graduation clothes and got my diploma cover. I put up the pictures from Friday already. We got some fun ones, despite the rain and cold that arrived special for the weekend. I don't have class this week. But next week I'll start up again, for the last time, for this part at least. I can definitely tell that I'm not done with my education yet. Hopefully I can start on the next part in January. 7 May 2007, Monday I like the number 7. It has long been my favorite. And on the seventh of just about every month this year, I can mark a palindrome. Today is 7-05-07. This year is just an interesting year - in so many ways. 13 May 2007, Sunday
I have a great mom. And I think everyone should know that. Here are two pictures of us. The first was taken last July. And the other one was taken just last week. I owe a lot of who I am to my mom. Thanks Mom! You're the greatest.
18 May 2007, Friday I had to go in to work this afternoon so I could call the parents of six of my students. They were good phone calls though. I just wanted to make sure it was okay with them if pictures of their kids ended up in the newspaper next week. The newspaper called me yesterday and asked if I had any pictures from the stop motion movie project that my fourth graders had done. I'm so excited for my students. They did such a great job with those and they really turned out well, especially considering that none of us, me included, really had any idea what we were doing when we started. Two of my last three classes started this week. The third will just be one week long for the first week of June. On Tuesday and Thursday I have a "Nature of Science" class. We had to blow bubbles and make observations about them for homework Tuesday night. On Wednesday I have an introduction to research class. The class is scheduled from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, but we voted we only want to come from 4:30 to 8:30 and we worked out a schedule of who is bringing dinner for everyone each week. For the research class I was already able to bring up the research project I did in my folklore class at BYU, which you can find in the BYU library (it is so fun to be able to type my name in the library computers and have something come up) and the action research project I did that the newspaper is now writing a story about. I guess I do have a bit of experience with research. And I'm looking forward to more. 19 May 2007, Saturday It's no secret I can get photo happy at times. So today I put up three new photo pages on my site. There is now a page of pictures I took of the snowball bush on my block. I put up a page in the sewing section with pictures of the cute dishtowels I appliqued last night. And I put up some of the pictures I took this evening at our ward's barbeque activity. I need to get some pictures of my garden soon. 24 May 2007, Thursday Where did May go? I swear it's still some time in early March. Yet today I said good-bye to my last group of students for the year. I'll still see them next week, but not in my class. This year flew. I finally got a picture of me from last September, so the collage of me for 2006 is finished. The only picture taken of me in September of 2006 was my one for school, which turned out very well. It was the first time I remember ever having straight hair for a school picture, and I've been in school for the last 23 years. That's a lot of school pictures. I put it on my blog, but I want to put it here as well. On May 15th the morning show on KSL radio read part of a letter written about me by one of the parents of two of my students. You can listen to the clip of it here: radio clip. It was a surreal way to start my morning. In two weeks I get to attend the 13th Annual Teacher Feature Banquet. I RSVP'd today. It felt oddly not humbling that my name was on their list for the banquet. They have the whole letter he wrote on their web site right now. And some time in the future, the newspaper is supposed to run a story about the movies my fourth graders made. I hope they do it soon, some of the parents really want to see it. I want to see it too. 27 May 2007, Sunday
Happy birthday Tyler. You are my favorite brother-in-law. 28 May 2007, Monday
