August 2005
5 August 2005, Friday I realized today that it's been a couple of weeks since I updated this site. I blame it in part on that I haven't been using my iBook a whole lot since I like my HP so much better. I'm on it almost constantly. I'll do a quick run down of the last two weeks then. On July 25th I went to the parade in the morning. I love parades. That night I went to fireworks in Spanish Fork. It had to be one of the best finales I've ever seen. It was about a twenty minute show and it seemed like they divided the fireworks they had in half and shot of half of them in about 15 minutes, and the other half in the last 5 minutes. It was amazing. I flew out to Indiana last week to spend time with my family and be there when Ryan got home. On the 30th I ran in the 5K race the hospital does there. I did great considering I haven't run in a very long time. On the 31st we drove up to Chicago to pick Ryan up from the airport when he flew in from Hong Kong. He's now been completely around the world. I'm jealous. He's been places I've long dreamed of going to. Right now he's doing a lot of sleeping and relaxing after all that travel. He'll start graduate school in about two more weeks. The day I flew back to Utah I had the most amazing migraine. I would suggest never flying with a migraine that bad. I wasn't sure if I was going to pass out, throw up, or have my head explode. At least I was able to sleep most of it off and it is all just a very bad memory now. Last night was the first Enrichment for the brand new committee and my brand new Enrichment counselor. They did a great job. Our topic was cooking with spices and using slow cookers. Any Enrichment with food that great has to be good, right? I'm excited for them and what they are going to do next. I also went to my first theater audition in about a year last night. I auditioned for the Pleasant Grove Players melodrama. Their melodrama was the last show I did last year. It would be fun to do it again. They told me they'd finalize the cast by tomorrow night. It was a lot of fun to audition, it was a kind of release to read the lines and do a little acting again. So that's what I've been up to. I've got a little over a week before I go back to work. I'm not sure if I'm ready or not. I guess we'll find out soon. 30 August 2005, Tuesday I hadn't thought I was as busy as I was, but it has been a long time since I updated this web site. I'll see what I can update today. The rest of my story for August might have to wait a few more days. First I have to wish my brother and my mom happy birthdays.
Next, the big thing that has happened recently is that school started again. I am not ready for school to be starting again, but here I am, second week of school, getting ready to start a fundraiser next week, finding a substitute for the following week, meeting with the principal tomorrow to talk about tutoring. It's in full swing and I'm not sure if I'm ready to swing yet. But ready or not, it's here. The week of August 16th started us off with four straight days of meetings. It was good to see everyone again of course. I really do love my job. And I have the odd feeling that I actually got something done during those days, although I can't quite remember what. The district also threw a little party for all the certified employees in the district, all 3,000 of us. It was a nice tribute to teachers. They honored those who had worked for the district the longest, 48 years some of them. I can't imagine working in one place that long, let alone living in one place that long. I really do like my kids though. They are great kids and make the job worth it. This is the fourth year I'll be teaching a lot of them, and it's great to watch them grow up. Of course we decided to try updating my lab this year. So the tech and I were here till 9pm the day before my first class loading programs and checking to make sure everything worked. Everything still doesn't work, but we are pretending it does and going ahead with it all anyway. The week of meetings was also Education Week at BYU. Brian started me going to this two years ago, and while it makes that first week of school a little crazy, it's worth it. I was able to take some amazing classes and get geared up to tackle whatever challenges come my way. It was also the week rehearsals started for this year's melodrama. I've been cast in the PG Players melodrama as Alvina Moneycracker. I don't have to wear a mustache this year, but I do get to play with a tree for most of the second scene. It's a lot of fun. I'm still the Relief Society president in my ward, so I couldn't spare the time to do shows at other theaters where there would be two to three months of rehearsal and then a month worth of performances. But the melodrama is only one month start to finish. I can make time for that. So the middle of August was very busy. I'll get to a few other points in August in another day or two or twenty. | ||
