News, Information, Updates

21 August 2008, Thursday

15 August 2008, Friday

Now today, today is a holiday I can get behind - Relaxation Day. And I plan to do just that. With a bubble bath between Olympic coverage and everything.

Also, happy birthday to Tanya.

13 August 2008, Wednesday

Hooray for Lefties! You are a rare treasure.

11 August 2008, Monday

Happy Anniversary to my parents. I'm so glad they fell in love. And even more glad that they still are in love.

9 August 2008, Saturday

I love books, oh yes I do.

8 August 2008, Friday

Happy Olympics!!

I've been trying to hand quilt a king sized quilt for four years. I haven't made much progress on it in the last 3.5 years. The first (and so far only) quilt I've hand quilted was the bedspread I had on my bed through college. I made that one back in 1996. My mom and I put it on frames in the living room and watched the Atlanta Summer Olympics while we quilted it. So tonight while watching the Opening Ceremonies, I'm putting my spool quilt up on frames in my living room and my goal is to have the qulitng all done by the Closing Ceremonies. I hope I get calouses real fast on my fingers. This is going to be a lot of hand sewing. I'll let you know how I do.

All told there are 60 spools to quilt (that's counting putting pieces of spools with other pieces to make a whole spool). I have about 22 of them finished already. One whole short side of the blue border is done plus about a third of one other side of a long blue border. None of the yellow border is done yet. I have a lot to do.

7 August 2008, Thursday

My mom sent me two cards for Wiggle Your Toes Day yesterday and National Lighthouse Day today.

Yesterday I wiggled my toes over at the hot tub at my apartment. The pool was almost the same temperature as the hot tub. It's kind of hot right now.

There aren't a whole lot of lighthouses around Tucson. But I saw some tall lights in the form of lightning when I was driving home tonight. Does that count?

And happy half-birthday tomorrow Dad. The Olympics are having a big party for you.

4 August 2008, Monday

If you go to the book section of my website now, you will probably notice a big difference. It's not really there any more. Over the last month I've been moving all of my reviews to a different format. They are now all on a B.Log (book log, or blog). This way they are searchable and people can comment on books as they read them too. I'm excited for this new format. I will be keeping the table with the basics on this part of my site. And I'm going to go back and recreate the tables for past years as well. But all the reviews will now be elsewhere. Now to get busy reading more books. Enjoy Miss Giggles' Book Log!

29 July 2008, Tuesday

My flight from Salt Lake to Tucson today went through Los Angeles. My flight took off about 11:20. Less than half an hour later there was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake. Sad that I missed it, but at least it didn't delay my flight. (BBC story, NY Times story, CNN story.) I particularly like how I was reading the New York Times story on the afternoon of the 29th but it says it isn't published till the 30th.

24 July 2008, Thursday

For the marathon story, see the blog.

22 July 2008, Tuesday

Why did I spend Approximate Pi Day and Hammock Day on an airplane?

20 July 2008, Sunday

Thank goodness I had ice cream today. It would be a shame to let National Ice Cream day pass without eating any ice cream.

14 July 2008, Monday

How amazing was I? Today I threw some of my teddy bears into the back of my car in honor of Teddy Bear Picnic Day on the 10th (I'm still waiting to hear that song), and went to lunch at Chili's where I, an amazing geek (and I've embraced that about me, even before Embrace Your Geekness Day yesterday), ate french fries for Bastille Day today, and had a hamburger, greatly appreciating the cow that provided it (for Cow Appreciation Day tomorrow). Four holidays in one go. I am amazing!

Also, there is a lot more going on with my blog than there is here these days. So go check it out. And leave me comments. I like feeling like I'm not just talking to myself there.

7 July 2008, Monday

Happy Chocolate Day!

Now that's a holiday I can really celebrate.

6 July 2008, Sunday

If you write the month first we had this fun date last month. But I write the day first, so I get to celebrate it more now. Happy 06.07.08!!

4 July 2008, Friday

Happy Independence Day!

Thanks for not sitting down John.

1 July 2008, Tuesday

Happy Canada Day Tanya!!

It's summer now officially as of the 21st. Not that it hasn't been hot for a long time already. But the summer storms have started too. They are wonderful. I love them. Sunday evening I could hear the thunder rolling in. I love that sound.

I don't have a waffle iron (for various random reasons), so for Waffle Iron Day on Sunday I made french toast. I figured that was pretty close.

I didn't see any meteors yesterday for Meteor Day. But I did see a few on Friday night. Friday night I went camping at Roosevelt Lake here in Arizona. Beautiful lake. And it was fun to see all the saguaro cactus on the shores as well. The night was so dark and I could see so many stars. It's been too long since I looked up and saw the Milky Way like that.

The month of June is in the archives.
